four noble truths series - talk 2: the first noble truth
In this week’s session, we took a deeper dive into the First Noble Truth—The Truth of Suffering (Dukkha)—and began to explore how this reality shows up in our day-to-day lives.
We focused in on the secondary sufferings many of us experience regularly, like:
Worry about future difficulties
Separation from loved ones or things we enjoy
Not achieving what we hope for
Encountering unwanted or inconvenient situations
We reflected on how often we experience subtle forms of dukkha and how simply being aware of it—without judgment—can be a powerful step toward freedom. No need to fix, change, or resist—just noticing and meeting it with presence.
We also left space for group sharing and connection, followed by a few optional reflection questions to carry into the week.
Reflection Questions:
When did I notice discomfort this week—big or small—and how did I respond to it?
(Did I push it away, try to fix it, get lost in it, or meet it with awareness?)What subtle forms of suffering showed up in my daily life?
(Missed expectations, minor annoyances, restlessness, comparison, etc.)Was I able to pause and notice the urge to react?
(Even just noticing the urge is a powerful step.)What happened when I gave space to my experience instead of immediately reacting?
(What did I learn from riding the wave of discomfort?)Is there a situation or feeling I’ve been labeling as “bad” that might hold some hidden wisdom or invitation for me?
When did I miss the present moment because my mind was chasing something else?
(How did that feel? What might I do differently next time?)
Feel free to share some of your thoughts or reflections here in the comments, or in the Discord group chat.
